What do my cholesterol numbers actually mean?

Not a diagnosis: a head start. These are the three drivers most worth checking first, based on what the evidence says gets missed most often.

01

Context beats one number

LDL matters alongside ApoB, triglycerides, HDL and your overall risk. One number alone misleads.

02

Lp(a): the missed factor

Genetic, unmeasured by default, and worth testing once in a lifetime.

03

Diet honesty

Saturated fat raises LDL in most; fibre and losing central weight lower it. Decades of spin notwithstanding.

Worth asking your GP about

Full lipid panel + ApoB if available; Lp(a) once
